. because mr. mandela had been so ill this year, president obama did not personally visit with him while he was on that trip to south africa. in fact, this is interesting. the only time the two men apparently ever met in person was in 2005 in washington, when mr. obama was just starting his career in the united states senate. "the new york times" reports that the one visit started when mr. mandela's advisers told him, while he was on a trip to washington, that while he was there, he ought to take a little bit of time to try to meet this rising star young senator who had given such a great speech at the democratic national convention the year before. and so senator obama got the call, unexpectedly. he was on his way to meeting on a totally different subject at the time, but he diverted course in washington and drove to mr. mandela's hotel room in washington. and that is where this picture was taken. which is the only picture of the two men ever taken. it was taken by senator obama's personal assistant at the time, who was driving him to that other meeting when the call came through to please

and businesses almost 2 trillion per year. that's right. that is their number. more than 20 times the $80 billion price tag that the obama administration puts into the regulations. this new report put up on the libertarian competitive enterprise institute marginally funded by the coke brothers who brought that information. illinois democratic governor pat quinn this week signed a new legislation intended to reform the state's massively underfunded pension system. illinois has $100 billion shortfall in its funding of employee retirement plans, the worst in the country. the new law is expected to cut that liability by about 21 billion, fully fund their retirement system by 2044. we will watch carefully, and no one should hold their breath. labor unions are threatening to file a lawsuit to challenge the new law. that may be sincere, or it may be political theater. you will see about that. stocks ended the day sharply higher on positive developments in both the economy and in the job market, sparking speculation that the fed may choose to taper as early as this month. we will see more of the same fro

the holidays, president obama announced the most significant diplomatic breakthrough between the united states and iran in over 30 years. but there are powerful, extreme forces working to scuttle the deal, powerful, extreme forces known as the united states senate and the nefarious armies of bipartisan compromise. the interim six-month deal with iran announced by the president would freeze iran's nuclear program in exchange for a comparatively meager sanctions relief. according to the "washington post," sanctions relief under the interim agreement could be worth about $7 billion over the six-month period. that's compared to the $100 billion in frozen iranian oil revenue that would remain in place, and new sanctions by congress during the six-month period could actually violate the terms of the deal. and yet, a bipartisan group of senior senators are "spending the remaining week of the thanksgiving recess forging agreements on a new sanctions bill." robert menendez says this will strengthen the administration's hand. >> i think creating a sanctions regime that is an insurance policy and also cr

did you find out? >> after a bitter pill story last year, that story is followed up. he'll write a monthly column about implementing obama care. basically, the good thing, one of the gas things about obama care it actually sets some new laws saying you can't, hospital can't overcharge the way it did before and expect to have that nonprofit status they enjoy. what was discovered is 2 1/2 years after they wrote through they haven't written regulations that would for the hospitals to start charging them or force hospitals to stop going after poor or indy against or underinsured folks. it's a good story. the obama administration can't get the little things right. some of these practices and policies would start. >> is the stop of overcharge is part of america spend sewing much of its gdp spent on health care or is it a separate issue. >> it's one of the reasons we do spend so much on health care. you get into a minor scrape or accident you go to hospital and easily rack up $10 or $25,000 worth of charges in a few hours. some of those charges are just completely, you know, unreal. wha
